Dear Darcy,

Great to hear from another NTNU student! And congratulations on taking on the challenge of trying to develop another way of teaching Chinese. I completely agree we need better ways of getting beginners over the hump of producing tones.

I’ve noticed some Chinese teachers outside of Asia ignore tones, sadly. And some Westerners in Taiwan, who have spent decades with Chinese, are challenged by tones. It’s definitely a matter of practice makes plausible. Perfect may be too much to ask! We just have to keep working on it.
